Croatian Tales of Long Ago - Sacred Oak Tree

Although he was prone to rage and jealous outbursts, humans, giants and all other beings who walked the earth knew that Perun was the most righteous divine judge. Although he instilled fear and awe in them, they also nurtured hope that he would take care of them.
They dedicated the largest and most powerful oak trees to Perun and lit eternal fires there. When they sought solace or when they needed an extra grain of wisdom, when they sought help or showed gratitude, they came under the sacred oak tree. It was a place where they dared to believe that tomorrow will be better after all.
